The whole thing seemed so surreal.

Your Logic, you can kind of tell it's meaning by the way it's used in context.

The war intrigued her. pg. 96

Synonym, the book says," "and the mystery". The word mystery is a synonym for intrigued.

Mermaids intrigue me.
